Our mission is to reduce the progression of keratoconus which leads to scaring leading to corneal transplant surgery.
Our treatment protecol is to utilize the modality (contact lenses and/or spectacles) that are the least traumatic to the corneal surface.
Keratoconus is a disease of the cornea ( the front window of the eye) that distorts the image. The cornea is irregularly curved and most patients cannot see clearly through glasses or soft contact lenses. There is some genetic component, but this can be unique to the individual. Dr. Goldberg is a leading provider for keratoconic therapy.
There are many approaches to the treatment of the corneal condition of keratoconus. Usually rigid contact lenses are needed of provide a smooth surface so that a clear image can be focused at the back of the eye. Sometimes conventional soft contact lenses can be used or glasses although this is rare.
New soft lenses that have a rigid center called hybred lenses are more comfortable. The most common of these is the Synergeyes Lens.
