DR. FRED E GOLDBERG WAS AWARDED VIRGINIA'S 2009 OPTOMETRIST OF THE YEAR

The 2009 Annual Conference of the Virginia Optometric Association (VOA) was the setting for the selection of the most prestigeous award that can be bestowed on an optometrist in the state, Optometrist of the Year. Dr. Fred Goldberg, was the 2008/2009 President of the Association which he represented to the the American Optometric Association moved to the position of  Past President. Dr. Goldberg has served the profession in many capacites including President of the Northern Virginia Optometric Society, Trustee of the Board of the VOA, other officer positions, and adjunct professor for several optometry colleges. The Optometrist of the Year is given only once in a doctors lifetime to the doctor who exemplifies the highest standards and ideals of the profession.

Dr. Goldberg received his Bachelor of Science degree after attending Temple and Harvard Universities. He then earned his Doctor of Optometry from the New England College of Optometry. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry, member of the American Optometric Association, the Southern Council of Optometry, Immediate Past President of the Virginia Optometric Association, and Past President of the Northern Virginia Optometric Society. Dr. Goldberg is also active in the community as  Past President of the McLean Earlybird Lions Club and member of the McLean Chamber of Commerce. He is a Black Belt in Martial Arts, a biker and fisherman.He also plays several instruments (saxophone, piano and recorder),paints,sculpts,and draws. He and his wife enjoy their children and family celebrations.
Helene M. Strassman, O.D.
Dr. Strassman received her Doctor of Optometry from the State University of New York, State College of Optometry after her Bachelor of Science From SUNY, Buffalo. She is a member of the American Optometric Association, the Southern Council of Optometry, the Virginia Optometric Association, and the Northern Virginia Optometric Society. As an avid golfer, ice skater and skier, Dr. Strassman recognizes the importance of special vision needs. She is committed to providing the highest quality care for her patients and informing them of state-of-the-art vision correction techniques.
